I bought these in October 2010 to replace a similar grinder I had and used regularly for years which eventually broke beyond repair. This one looked pretty much the same and I was very happy with it at first. I love that it disassembles for easy cleaning and that it can be washed in the dishwasher. I haven't used it for perfect slicing or mathematically equal parts, just quick slicing of things like pecans. And it worked VERY well for five months. Until tonight when my husband tried to cut TOO MUCH at once. I actually heard a horrible unfamiliar noise coming from the kitchen and asked what it was. He said he cracked nuts. Well, my nuts never sound like that when I chop them, but oh well. After a few moments he told me it was broken. Yes, he tried grinding/grinding the entire cup (the plastic base that the grinder sits in) at once. So he wasn't chopping up some nuts - he was trying to grind up a big bowl of them. And it failed. While the chopper could have been better, my husband shouldn't have tried what he was doing. Hence the three stars. If you're just using this for BASIC shredding then you're fine.
