I am currently using this template for a dark quilt and it works well although admittedly it is smaller than what should probably be used for the entire design in a large quilt but I love how much it does looks like this special dark batik blanket. I also used it on a white satin backing for a baby blanket, using this template once around the outside of the blanket, just inside the border, then placing the feather flower in the center and it looks like a million bucks! I've found it easier to follow this pattern (and not "get lost") if I take some time in free-motion quilting to connect the lines with a marker pen after using a few tricks to remove the template from the removed fabric. Stains, but even if you get lost from time to time and twist it here and there, it's a forgiving pattern and the little whoops aren't noticeable if you're using good enough thread. Enjoy.
