As a beginner engraver, these vices were affordable for me. That will do. but at the moment I don't know how long. What I don't like is the overall cheap quality. All holes are tapped and none of the pins are threaded. The pins are brittle and most of them aren't even the same size as the holes (many are too big, others, hardly useful, are too small and have a lot of play). If you plan photographing work in progress, find a way to fix the holes because they are completely rusted. The kit included extra screws and hex wrenches that weren't even designed for this vise. Some of these reviews are dead and some seem to have gotten a very different vise than I did. Personally I wouldn't recommend this vise but then again this was my first experience and I've gotten it to work so far.
