DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!

UPDATE 07/10/2018. Tenergy no longer responds. They refused to buy back this defective product simply because I exceeded the 30 day return period. They only replace sensors under warranty after an ice bath test. The problem is that the ice bath test forced me to find one of the probes that I thought were good or bad. I still have one good probe left, the others are either completely non-functional (one shows a temperature of 500 degrees) or drop by 20 degrees. Some only turn off after being placed in the oven/grill/smoker and heated, but they pass the ice bath test. The fact that Tenergy does not endorse their product speaks for itself. UPDATE 07/06/2018: Tenergy is talking to me. They are willing to replace any faulty sensors if I send them a photo of the ice bath test, but they won't take the device back and give me a refund (90 days has passed). FYI, these probes are used when smoking meat. They are rarely exposed to temperatures above 300 degrees, but they are exposed to these temperatures for up to 18 hours at a time. UPDATE 07/02/2018: 2 more sensors failed during overnight cooking in a smokehouse at 225 degrees. These probes are absolutely terrible. Tenergy does not answer. UPDATE May 2018: Cannot recommend this monitor. 2 out of 6 probes have failed and the 3rd will fail soon. After being in a smoker at 225 degrees for 16 hours, two have died and are now reporting temperatures much higher than the actual temperature. Now, every time I cook, I have to compare each probe to another probe that I know is good, as well as to myself. If two fail already, I assume the rest will come before the end of the summer will be cancelled. You'll notice that in the last paragraph of my original review, I said "IF, not if one of the probes fails." Boy was I there. I just didn't think it would happen so quickly. Second, there are a few oddities with the application. Specifically, if you set the temp to 203, it won't work until the meat reaches 204. It makes me crazy. Of course it has to wait until 203 is a fixed temperature, but it doesn't have to wait until 204. If I could get that back, I would. I will look around for a better meat smoker. ORIGINAL REVIEW Dude, this thing is awesome. I just smoked a brisket over the weekend and used two tubes in a brisket. I don't trust probes anymore so being able to have up to 6 is nice. The hardware interface is simple. Almost too easy. The app works very well, but it is also too simple. One thing I have to say about this is that plugging, unplugging and plugging into another device works like a charm! Much better than Weber's iGrill junk. My wife and I share the burden of smoking meat, so we often turn it off. All you have to do is close the app on one device and you can open it on another. What is not transmitted is preset information. If I have a preset installed and my wife connects to it, the preset is lost on the device. But once it sets a preset and then disables it, it still stays on the monitor. I like that it uses AA batteries. I've had it on for over 20 hours and the battery indicator hasn't moved. Cons: The app lacks some features. To set a specific temperature, you MUST create a preset. There's no way around it. It's annoying. Although the presets are well done. I just can't figure out how to remove one. Timers are very strange. You start a timer on a particular sensor and the temperature screen shows the number of minutes you originally set the timer for, not the current time. If you touch the timer icon it will jump to the point where you can edit the timer and therefore see the remaining time of the timer, but it is not active so you have to go back to refresh and then back to the timer to edit. The temperature gauge screen should show the time remaining on the timer(s). I hate that it uses non-standard 3.5mm TRS connectors for temperature sensors, which means I can't use other sensors with 2.5mm TS connectors that I've used for years, be it because I don't invent my own adapter. It also means IF, not if, one of the probes fails, I have to buy their probes and can't choose a higher quality product.

Pros
  • 1 year trial period
Cons
  • Low maintainability
