Very soft, light or medium weight. Although the design is strange. As other reviewers have pointed out, the ponytail holder feature is useless. The position means you carry your tail very low and then hope that pulling the tail with every head movement doesn't pull the hair out of your ears. Without even trying to braid my ponytail, my ears didn't stay covered. It barely covers them at the bottom when I keep my head perfectly still, and there's a lot of extra fabric at the top. When I'm not using the ponytail holder, there's an uncomfortably large amount of webbing at the base of my neck. I bought this because the top rated Smartwool headband was out of stock until mid-January. Too bad I just waited or looked elsewhere more intensively.
