I recently upgraded from an outdated desktop gaming console to a 2019 gaming laptop and ditched the (dead) desktop console. All hard drives went into the NAS, but I wanted to use the SATA SSD as an external portable device, so I chose this USB 3.1 enclosure. Assembly is extremely easy, it comes with foam tape to attach to the bits to prevent internal rattling, it's attractive, it has a visible "disk access" light that isn't irritating (a LED inside the plastic case that shines through a translucent section), and the best, in my opinion, uses a standard USB-C cable. That means, say, flopping back into bed with your laptop on your stomach and that 2-meter USB-C cable into a drive that sits securely on your bedside table (like I do now), and not chatting. At least with this (legacy) 250GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD, read/write speeds are excellent, but of course the type of drive you install matters - 5400rpm 2.5in. Laptop drive may not be that good.
