Died after 5 months, out of warranty but not quite crazy

Now most people would give this sucker a star after it died after 5 months of service but I don't . I'll explain why right here. What's good: It's a nice little power supply with lots of cables, and it had everything I needed to power a mid-range gaming build. The materials were pretty strong (until it exploded) and I had no problems with it. Bad: It exploded. Now the PSU didn't explode out of nowhere. What happened to me is I had a Corsair H60 liquid cooler installed on my CPU and that suction cup had a bad short circuit. Fortunately, this version of the cooler connects directly to the PSU via SATA instead of being powered by the motherboard. When the cooler shorted out, he went through the circuit and found the closest SATA dongle, which was my LED controller. This one blew up and stopped the short from dropping further and destroying all my data, but then the current shot the other way and the power supply made a very loud noise like the door had slammed angrily and it was dead. But then again, no Fire! Hooray! I used to have such power supplies, I thought I lost the whole assembly, but I only lost the pump, LED controller and power supply. This turned a $3,500+ fix into a $350 solution. I'm sad that I can't get an RMA or any warranty service for my PSU, but if the build quality was any worse it would probably sacrifice my entire design. Oh, and the power cords fried a BIG time! But still no fire! EVGA: Quality you can rely on haha. If I hadn't had such a bad accident as with my cool box, it would probably have been in service longer. The fan was quiet most of the time until you hit moderate peak loads like you would expect from any other high-end power supply today. The build quality isn't bad, but the company is. Spring. not a big fan of them now.

Pros
  • Internal power supplies
Cons
  • Not as thick as other lockpicks
