I just had to find one of these hydrometers. I found it accurate in a few small tests. I like to ride with the specific gravity, I'm used to it. Tested with distilled white wine vinegar 5% with a known specific gravity of 1.006. It was right at that mark as seen in picture one. The second photo was of sweet red wine. Read 2% alcohol. This is normal after fermentation. You need to take measurements before and after fermentation and then subtract the measurements afterwards to get the final alcohol percentage. The wine also had a specific gravity of 1.016. This is typical of sweeter red wines. Dry wine will be about 1.0 tbsp. I just think that two things can be different. One of them is that this hydrometer should have lower specific gravity for people who like to make fire water. It only drops to around 0.0980. Thus, it could be read after distillation for final verification. Second, the scale can be engraved on the glass inside. This is the only paper that is said to have glue on it. I was afraid that he might move and everything would be turned off. On the other hand this is a good kit for the price and I found it to be very accurate.
