Review on Suburban 520814 Module Board by Will Kern

Fixed intermittent flame issue

I have a retractable RV with a water heater. The igniter has become increasingly unreliable in recent trips. Eventually, even though the propane turns on, the igniter will not fire. I traced the ignition wire to the water heater electronics board. The resistor was brown/blackened next to the ignition coil. I don't know how the resistor failed, but it looks like that's the only part that clearly failed. I installed a new circuit board and the water heater is running again. I am hoping to find a place to refurbish these boards as they are not very durable and this one will most likely fail. The bracket is pretty crappy, with a foam block attached to the back of the board to keep it from falling out of the box. The box is attached to the trailer frame with 2 Phillips screws. Overall it looks like a board designed in the 1970's with very simple details. I would estimate that parts on a $2 PCB in a $1 package could cost $15. It amazes me how little progress is made when things are "good enough". Replacing the circuit board fixed the problem and I now have a working 1980's style electronic circuit board with little to nothing new. Temperature measurement, power consumption measurement, the entire "digital" solution costs $10. Spring.
