It would be better to replace the muffler.
I was able to get the mount to work but only because I have a set of flashlights. It would probably be a good idea to swap out the muffler, but I tried to save my original muffler. OEM mufflers have a heat shield that increases the muffler cross section by approximately 2 inches.
