Medium size fan for low speed operation

When I bought the full size Vornado 753 Circulation Pump I knew it would be very soon until I brought a smaller fan to keep it company. The 753 stays up and blows air out the window at medium speed at night when the window down is open. This Vornado 610DC is designed to circulate cooled air downstairs during the day. It has a DC motor. That was a big advantage for me. I had a DC ceiling fan in a solar powered farmhouse. It worked for 25 years when I lived there and it's still working five years later. I ran it most of the summer and winter, changing the direction of the airflow depending on the season. DC motors work very efficiently. The Vornado 610DC gets its DC power from a transformer connected to a power cord that plugs into the back of the fan. The fan speed is controlled by the speed controller. I run it a little more than its minimum setting. When it comes to gear of any kind, I prefer to buy units larger than I need and then run them at no more than half speed. This is much easier on the equipment than running at full speed all the time. Fans also require less power to move the same volume of air. The 610DC is quiet - almost completely silent at low speeds. I'm not particularly happy with the location of the speed dial on this fan, but it doesn't matter as I usually set the speed and then just leave it alone.
