I wear a women's size 8.5 in most shoes and bought these medium sized socks. They fit great and seem to have survived 4 washes without excessive shrinkage or weird felting (I never really know what wool does in a wash). Now I can comfortably wear running shoes that chafe my ankles in other low-cut socks. I don't normally wear socks with anything but trainers, but in cooler weather it's unavoidable in my Chuck Taylor low-top trainers, and they keep me warm while remaining fairly discreet. They're not invisible, but if I wear socks a little lower my shoes just eat them up, so I'm very happy with them.
