When this scratching post arrived and I saw the small box I thought they either sent me the wrong item or I was scammed and the item was smaller. In fact, the design is just incredibly smart. The base of the pole folds in half to fit in a crate, saving packaging material, and unfolds into a full size base. The stand itself consists of two parts that bolt together and then bolt to the base. Unlike other scratching posts, this stand has a bolt embedded in the base so it sits evenly and doesn't wobble. There should be more claws and towers like this. Between smart and solid construction, easy assembly, low price and how much my cat likes it, this is almost perfect.
