All it takes to get the suction cup to the floor is pain. You might be thinking of something like the Hydrofarm Active Aqua ASCL Air Stone Cylinder, Large, set it and forget it. There are ways to get suction cups to work, but when you have to do it every 2 weeks it becomes a chore. One of mine started falling apart too. I wasn't rough with it and really don't think I did anything that caused it to fall apart. But pieces of one of the blocks began to fall off.
