Review on πŸ”‘ Keyless Entry Remote Control Car Key Fob for Toyota Rav4 Yaris Scion xB HYQ12BBY - Pack of 2 by KeylessOption by Gabe Smith

Finally happy with the purchase of Rav4 2009 in base

The problem with these keys is finding someone to cut and program them. Most hardware stores will only cut the keys you buy there (Ace, Home Depot, Menards, etc.). I found a local locksmith who would carve them for $2 each. I found another locksmith to program them for about $50 each so I was generally happy with the end result but I had to walk around/call a lot of places. Would I do it again, yes. These keys usually cost around $150 without programming, and the dealer charges even more. All the reviews stating that these dongles don't have a built-in transponder are wrong. The base Rav4 2007/2008 models do not have a security transponder, while the base 2009+ models do. Programming these buttons is a two-step process; The first step is the transponder, a radio chip that the security system reads when you put the key in the ignition. The second step is to program the lock/unlock buttons.
