This item is so amazing I had to buy a second one! Just plug it in outdoors and make sure the photo sensor is pointing in a direction where it can receive light (don't keep it covered). When it gets dark enough, your lights will turn on automatically. What I love about these smart plugs is that they are 1) weatherproof and 2) adapt to winter's ever-changing twilight times. It always turns on in the dark, which is great as the nights get darker and earlier towards the end of December. it runs from dusk to dawn, you can make it run from dusk to a specified number of hours later. No need to turn on the light at 3am and worry about the light going out at the end of the night. It makes Christmas lights shine. :)
