Pairing this speaker with E06 pads produces the smoothest, most open sound of any TMA pair I've tried. By smooth I don't mean lack of highs, I mean that the transitions from mids to lows to highs were smooth, giving the tracks a cohesive, balanced sound that I couldn't have gotten for less than $300. . Combined with the soft material of the E06 pads, the S02 delivers a lively soundstage with clear separation between instruments and parts. I found them superbly detailed and much more comfortable/interesting to listen to than the similar price/market Sony 7506/ATH50x/Senn HD 280. All of this suggests that these aren't totally flat reference cans, I'd still class them as funny (I'm using OPPO PM-3 or Senn 650 as a reference).
