I use a Dell laptop on a Dell docking station for work and an HP desktop for personal use. Both use a common display with HDMI and VGA inputs. Whenever I needed to work from home or do multiple tasks, I had to dock the Dell, connect a separate wired mouse and keyboard to the dock, and get to work. Then when I had to do personal things with HP, I had to undock the Dell and use the HP Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, which are delayed, require batteries, and as Bluetooth RF devices are subject to keypress monitoring, tampering, or tampering. This product allows me to connect both computers to the switch and use a WIRED keyboard and mouse and easily switch between the two computers using fast USB 3 cable connections. It also has two additional open ports for connecting USB 3 drives or printers, which can be connected to any computer. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to "wake up" and get the wired mouse and keyboard working, but then they work fine. There's a two-page list of hotkey instructions, but I don't bother, it's great to be able to easily switch between computers without plugging and replugging peripherals. It is powered by a cable that connects it to an open USB port on the Dell Dock. The connection is easy and reliable once the computer recognizes it (this may take a few seconds). Very comfortable, safe and highly recommended.
