Review on Genie 100 OEM Genie Corp by Donald Vargas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

After nearly 13 years of service, we thought our Genie Screw Drive Door Operator needed to be replaced.

Our Genie IS Series screw garage door opener stopped opening at about 18 inches and then made a loud pop. A local garage door service company informed the user that the screwdriver was broken and would cost $349 to replace. Upon closer inspection, I found that the only problem was broken teeth on the bottom bracket assembly. This kept the bottom bracket assembly from closing gaps in the screw drive and produced an awful noise. The replacement bottom bracket assembly came promptly from Revain and looked identical in shape and finish to the original. It only took 30 minutes to replace this part and the door worked like new again. If you can pull the carriage assembly latch and pull the door past the point where it stops and then continue using the opener to open the door, this is likely the part that needs to be replaced. Tools Required: Pliers to remove the cotter pin holding the flat head pin and a 1/2 inch open end wrench or socket wrench to remove the hex flange nut from the rail strap at the end of the rail away from the motor assembly. For detailed parts lists and assembly instructions, refer to the user manual. If you lost it, visit the Genie website. Please note that there are several versions of this part. Our doors use mechanical limit switches to control the opening and closing points. Some systems use magnetically actuated limit switches that require one or two magnets in the carriage.
