This base was developed by SONOS for use with the BEAM speaker. As with all Sonos products, engineering excellence is at play. The beam fits snugly onto the base, and the two screws and holes are magnetized for easy installation. Open cutouts at the back allow for more freedom of movement during installation. The base tray allows for convenient placement of power, HDMI, and in my case Ethernet cables. I see there are cheaper mounts now. But for us, the original Sonos mount is worth it. I mounted it above the TV using VESA mounts. No need to drill into the wall, let the TV accessory do all the work. Very happy with the result.
