Poor Design - Do Not Buy

You may think you are unsure whether you want a fixed axle or a single sided bearing. This LOOKS a good option. The price tag seems good. Unfortunately, this item is so poorly designed that you will almost certainly be disappointed. On first use (in bearing mode) the bearing makes a loud rattle/crunch/squeak. The bearing was loud enough that I would put it in fixed axle mode to avoid the noise! Tried silicone grease - didn't help. This diabolo can be converted from a one-sided bearing to a rigid axle with plastic tightening knobs on both sides. The instructions warn against over-tightening the knobs. Tried to disassemble according to the instructions. One knob came so tight from the factory that I couldn't undo it without risking damaging the plastic knob. (So I left it in aiming mode and reassembled it.) My son (who used a friend's diabolo and already knows some basic tricks) played with it for a few minutes before it fell over. (If you're unfamiliar with any of these, you'll find yourself dropping them from time to time.) The shells are made from a semi-flexible hard rubber material, but the critical point where the shells connect to the axle is made from a few hard, brittle plastic washers/rings. The plastic ring broke on the side where the handle was tightened. Even a simple design decision was bad. When using a unidirectional bearing it is useful to have a visual indication of the bearing direction. Look at the photos of diabolos with other bearings and you will see that there is a ring of a different color on one side. This diabolo has 1 tiny arrow on the black ring (black on black). It's almost invisible unless you bring it up to your nose and then turn it upside down. At this price point it looks like you could buy a pretty good fixed axis pellet. If you need bearing, you need to pay more. Don't be fooled into thinking you can get both with this product. I am returning it to Revain and will buy something else.
