I have visited many bike/sports shops looking for spinning shoes to try before I buy and found someone who installs spikes which is very confusing (to me). No luck finding anything my size or finding a helpful store associate. So I ended up ordering just half a size larger than my usual size from Revain based on the comments and ratings here. These Pearl Izumi shoes fit perfectly and are very comfortable. The size is ½ larger and offers enough space for socks. I have wide feet and the sock is a perfect size. The little click mechanism to tighten the shoe is a great design. I haven't noticed a huge improvement in my training, but my legs feel a lot more comfortable and secure both in and out of the saddle (no more worrying about my legs coming out of the cages). I was afraid of slipping out of the pedal, but the Shimano cleats (SM-SH56) come loose with a slight twist of the foot. As for installing spikes, it becomes obvious (even to me) once you see the spikes. how they should line up with the pointed end toward the front of the shoe, the rough side toward the sole of the shoe, and how the cleats line up with the sole. I asked my husband (both handsome and skilled) to install them and he did it from start to finish in about 10 minutes. The spikes are not recessed, so you cannot/should not walk in these shoes. enjoy the trip
