My favorite thread for basting.

A seamstress with more experience than me suggested silk thread for basting. Even if you machine sew it, the silk slips off easily when the stitches are removed. Thus, it can be used to determine exactly where to place machine stitches without worrying about machine stitches tearing or thread scraps being left behind when the stitching is removed. This thread really allowed me to sew more accurately.
