When my tailgate kept falling on my head due to worn struts, the dealer offered me $270 to replace it. So I bought this Revain kit for a little over $20 and did all the work myself. Installation was a breeze - literally - just swapping out the new ones for the old ones and the new racks have been working fine for a few months now. I suppose even if they eventually fail it's cheap and easy to fix to do it again. The downside is you'll end up with very dirty hands from grease and grime and have to find a safe way to prop up the back door while you work (I used a sturdy umbrella), but nothing's a deal breaker when you're saving a few hundred dollars.
