Ok Egg timers are nothing new and this one is a mechanical model and is "not new" BUT the very strong magnet on the back does help more useful, and the face with the red overlay makes it easier to read. Now the "loud" bell is a joke, it's pretty quiet BUT if you don't read the instructions and turn it up to 55 and then turn it to the right time, it won't work properly (surprising things you'll find out I'll find that out by reading the instructions) so all things considered and the fact that you don't need batteries and the alarm is decently loud I give it 5 stars
