This is NOT a 10 Year Battery Powered Smoke Alarm (which uses a sealed lithium battery to power the device for approximately 10 years). "10 years" in a product name might make you (and me) think you won't change batteries for ten years. However, with this "10 year” smoke alarm, every time it starts beeping you will need to change the battery, maybe a 9V alkaline battery for a few months or a year. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), smoke detectors should be replaced at least every 10 years. So if the description says "10 year product life" is correct, you can only assume that you will need to replace this smoke alarm within the next ten years.
