The cut is a mixture of bike shorts and shorts for boys. I'm 5'8, 185. Usually a size 12 or 14. Goes down an inch on thigh. There is an inner layer and then an outer layer. I bought these to avoid the hassle of shaving on a trip to Iceland's baths and hot springs. I definitely have fat on the inner thighs and they really ride up because they are looser than cycling shorts. I think the smaller size would be too tight at the waist.
