The wood veneer is very cheap quality
Overall I've been very happy with this desk for almost a year. However, I just stuck a piece of packing tape on the surface of the desk for a moment because I needed somewhere handy to put it, and when I pulled it off the wood veneer tore like cheap frozen food packaging (see photo). I am probably going to look into buying a piece of custom glass to put on top of it to prevent further damage.
