Review on ๐Ÿ“ถ Hawking HWDN1 Wireless-300N Network USB Dish Adapter: Ultimate Hi-Gain Performance by Ted Higdem

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product but not for 64bit systems

The software was easy to install. However, the documentation is unfortunately outdated and does not show the current windows. I couldn't get the unit to find any networks at all and all frames received contained CRC errors, so I suspected a hardware problem and in exchange sent the unit back to Hawking with a new unit. The new device showed the same. Problems, so I was beginning to suspect software/configuration issues rather than bad hardware. This prompted me to boot into 32-bit Windows Vista (I regularly use 64-bit Vista) where I installed the software. Now I could see a large number of networks (much more than I've ever seen with my Intel WiFi module) and after some fiddling, I was able to reliably connect to my apartment building's WiFi. Hawking's device works well and I'm happy with it, but the software is complex and the documentation is very poor. Problems may arise for beginners. I would have no hesitation in recommending this device to experienced users. But don't buy it if you only have 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Vista. (Although Hawking promised to fix this bug for me - maybe they'll fix it someday.)
