First, a small manufacturing flaw: the threaded metal rod in the center of the peppermill half protruded slightly beyond where the flared base could lay flat on the countertop. This left the table prone to scratches (thankfully nothing happened) and the grinder wobbled when placed on the end of the peppers. He was fine as long as the end of the salt shaker was down. I fixed it with a Dremel grinder, removing about 1/2mm from the end of the shaft. It's pretty easy if you have such a tool. (Mask the rest of the base around the shaft with heavy duty tape so you don't sand the finished surface.) Otherwise it's exactly what I wanted. Good size for a dining table, easy to hold and transport. Ceramic grinders are adjustable with a simple threaded wing nut and I can dial in the exact coarseness or fineness I need. Light and easy to refuel. It was filled with white salt and black pepper. I've almost finished them and look forward to adding my flavor and color options.
