I use a headband in my right ear (which has over 50% hearing loss) so I can leave my good ear free for customers at the counter. At around 70% volume, I can hear my VTech cordless phone perfectly. I have tested the shackle with other users and the microphone picks up the sound very well too. However, the headband has sharp and uncomfortable edges, and the earbud doesn't sit very snugly in the ear. I'm so happy with the sound quality even though I'm looking for a DIY convenience mod rather than a replacement, especially at this price point!
