Most of the time the built in flash on my Sony a700 is sufficient but I bought it to fill in/reflex for portraits a bit. It worked great for that, but the best part was how well it lit up the dim chapel when I was asked to photograph my niece's wedding. Battery usage was reasonable, but I had some issues with the wireless features. Most of the time it worked, but not always. Basically, this was my first weekend trying wireless, so I'm not ruling out user error. It was a last-minute, low-tech gig; My daughter held the lightning bolt to bounce it off the ceiling. If you really need to light up a large area, this might work. I've had it for about 15 months and still recommend it.
