Worth it if you need to light a large area

Most of the time the built in flash on my Sony a700 is sufficient but I bought it to fill in/reflex for portraits a bit. It worked great for that, but the best part was how well it lit up the dim chapel when I was asked to photograph my niece's wedding. Battery usage was reasonable, but I had some issues with the wireless features. Most of the time it worked, but not always. Basically, this was my first weekend trying wireless, so I'm not ruling out user error. It was a last-minute, low-tech…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Unexpected quality

Although I've only taken a few dozen shots with this flash I found it very easy to use, well built, very powerful and to my surprise it can be operated cordless Sony a200. It gives off enough light to dazzle almost anyone. With a guide number of 53 meters, of course. What to expect. All the photos I've taken so far are properly exposed, very bright (reasonable). I've read some reviews of the cheaper version of this flash saying it underexposes pictures on Canon cameras. This is not a problem…

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Only available in white

Maybe slave flash?

I had high hopes for this flash as it is a Sigma and I am very happy with the quality of their lenses. I was a little hesitant about how new the Sony Alphas are and was skeptical that any of the early non-Sony flashes would work well with the Alpha. Well, unfortunately I had to listen to my skepticism. The flash doesn't have many opportunities to really use it in professional situations. It's better than Sony's cheap flash, but not good enough for field use. I gave it the go-ahead and tried it…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No power
