You can find a variety of devices that should hold your phone in place in the car, but to me the simplicity of it is a real win. First, it doesn't need to be attached to the windshield, so forget about those unsightly suction cup rings all over the glass. Another disadvantage of the suction cup is that it can come loose if it gets a little dirty. I'm still struggling with my GPS mount, which always wants to pop off the windshield when the car gets really hot. This clever little mount is a piece that looks like a rubber mat with grooves cut into it. This allows the two rubber clips to be positioned in a variety of ways, which should hold almost any smartphone both horizontally and vertically. (NOTE: The product documentation says this applies to Samsung Galaxy S8/S7/S6/S5/S4 Edge 7, iPhone 7/6/6S(plus) SE). Phone at a slightly more vertical angle than the other set.
