Review on Enhance your Home Theater - Luminoodle by Power Practical: USB Powered TV LED Light Strip for Ambient Lighting - True White - Ideal for (24"-29” TV) by Kim Young

Revainrating 5 out of 5

inexpensive lighting solution

I liked the fact that I had been looking at this particular product for several months, but I pulled the trigger because it was on sale so each model was about $5 cheaper. I bought the medium with the intention of making a U shape around the top and side of my TV. I didn't bother with the bottom part because I have a wall mounted soundbar right below that would partially block out the lighting effect. I wasn't sure about the mA consumption of such a long string of LEDs coming out of the TV's USB port either. The manufacturer recommends a minimum port rating of 1A (1000mA) for their bands, although YOU suspect most (?) TV manufacturers set their ports to 1000 and not 500 like older PCs and laptops. My 4 year old LG TV is the base 50 inch model and it does an excellent job of illuminating that band. I wired it up first to test all the lights, then slowly peeled the backing off and taped it down and around the back of the TV, trying to keep the same distance from the edge. The strip seems to adhere well to the plastic, although I didn't actually clean the surface but rubbed it to remove dust particles. Towards the end of the strip I cut off a few inches to match the starting point on the other side, otherwise I would definitely be cutting the length. My TV is mounted on the wall on a slanted arm, just pointing at head level, sitting on our couch, so the light reflecting off the wall surface is slightly off. Remember, the closer you stick the strip to the edge, the wider the lighting area on the wall will be. Most of the lighting on my wall comes from the top due to the pitch and a little less on the sides as only 85% of the length is covered. Definitely recommend this to anyone who mainly watches TV at night.

Cons
  • I vaguely remember
