Diy Ki, not for beginners

I bought this on the recommendation of a friend, he had a previous model and after a few updates it worked fine. The kit was complete including all parts (I think). Still don't know what the fingertips are for? If for lubrication, this was not included. The hardware quality is crap, the heads came off easily on some screws, the nuts are pretty rough, but it all came together. The assembly instructions, printed and .pdf were fine but there were no steps on setting up the wiring. Online videos are much better. When first activated, the auto-homing function tried to point the Y-axis in the wrong direction, NOT towards the limit switch. Obviously the software wasn't set up properly, but I had no idea how to fix that, so I swapped the pins on the stepper to reverse the direction and it seemed fine. I emailed Annette with this issue and they didn't reply, so there is no tech support. I had a hard time loading the included PLA, it just destroyed itself in the feeder. I finally got it to upload, it didn't go into the second pilot hole for some reason. Printing a test box took 2.5 hours. It looks great, the dimensions seem to be right, the bottom glass is smooth. There's some concern that "it" thinks the Zero is meant for the home. It's in the corner above the clip used to hold the glass, so I don't know what to do with it for future prints. Overall it's pretty good value for money, even with poor building instructions and basically NO information about the software. Another friend has an I3 printer, it came fully assembled, works great straight out of the box and has a nicer display. , but has a smaller build area and prints slower. Its price is about the same. So I guess this isn't for those looking for a plug and play printer that has all the thumbs up. You will need some mechanical and in my case electrical knowledge to get this working.

Pros
  • Upgraded Frame: All-metal frame body, stable structure and high printing precision.
Cons
  • Little things
