We bought ours from a local electronics store a few years ago (can't remember exactly when but I think we paid around $350 ). It's still going strong. I personally didn't notice that the hose was short. I like that it's quiet and light. Great for stairs, I briefly adjusted my telescope for this. I've found that sometimes on a hard floor we turn on the brush to clear a jam. It is practical that the switch is located on the handle. We bought 4 boxes of vacuum bags and usually let the vacuum run until we realize it's not sucking as much and then we see the bag full indicator. There are several packages in the boxes. So we have been actively using it for several years. It usually takes a few months before you need a new bag. We use it on both hard floors and carpets. With two cats and a golden retriever we get a lot of dirt/wool. No worn parts. Do what we want.
