The battery lock does NOT hold the battery. This essentially renders the radio a total failure, but it wasn't worth sending the $40 radio back, so I brought the heat gun to the retaining clip and then bent it down. I then cleaned the clip surface with a jeweler's file and the battery is now securely in place. There must be a manufacturing defect in the battery. Other reviews I have read about this radio have not mentioned this issue. Battery issues aside, the radio is great, especially for the price.
