Review on 🛏️ Pointehaven Queen Size Clarissa 12-Piece Luxury Bedding Set, 100% Cotton by Katie Johnson

I recently got fed up with my old bedding (a lovely cream Raymond Waites set, good enough, but I wanted something lighter). I was interested in something very bright and cheerful, not muted, for my room. Unfortunately, the industry has decided to replace most bedding with microfiber (read: polyester) because it's cheaper, but I can't stand polyester. I need cotton because it breathes! Of course, that limited my options. I've looked at a lot of queen size bedding online but didn't really feel like there were many. I was excited when I found this set because it's cotton, so light and beautiful, but there are downsides. But let's talk about the good sides first. The set is really bright, as in the picture. I like the fact that the squares are just printed and not an actual patchwork quilt, mostly because there are fewer seams that could potentially tear when washed. The underside of the quilt is a light mint green with white dots (decent backing, but you can't call this quilt "double-sided"). The pillowcases seemed to fit well. The fitted sheet included in the set has an elastic band all around, which I like. Unfortunately it's made for a much larger mattress than mine (I have an 8" memory foam mattress) so I couldn't use it (FYI: The only sheets I've found that are good for mattresses this thin work, are supplied by Target!) . I would buy a smaller 8 piece set without sheets but it seems to be chronically out of stock. In any case, for the price, it's an overall nice duvet, even though I didn't use sheets. Unfortunately, that's all good. Now for the bad. When I first got the set in the mail and opened it, I unpacked it and found that several of the latch seams were already torn. I fixed them manually. Then I noticed the horrific nature of this ceiling. This is really poor quality cotton, it was very stiff and made a rustling noise when moved. It was so bad I figured hopefully the laundry would soak it up (of course you should always wash new sheets anyway). Washing helped soften it a bit (although not as much as I'd like), but the rest of the bartack seams came undone with the wash - every single one. I had to fix them all manually (I also added extra items just in case). Well, that should take care of it. Unfortunately, I noticed that the cotton is quite thin. The quilting feels loose and saggy because there just isn't enough batting in it (but enough to keep you warm). So, I guess my point here is that the overall quality is pretty bad. The weird thing is that my other blanket costs about the same but is of much better quality. Understand. Despite all these rather negative points, I'm still satisfied overall. It's certainly very pretty and does its job of illuminating the room with color. Just be prepared to put in a lot of work to fix it if you decide to buy one. Too bad they didn't do better with this quilt - then it would be outstanding and deserve five stars. Anyway, only 3 stars from me. I guess it won't last forever but I'll just try to enjoy it until it breaks and then I'll buy a new one - hopefully something of better quality. Update: Okay, here's an update to my original review. Now downgrade to 2 stars. I really wish I was so in love with the color of this duvet when I first bought it - I would have sent it back for a refund. I've been wearing it for another four months and the cotton is still "warped" and ugly (in a way cotton really shouldn't be) and doesn't seem to soften with repeated washings. It hasn't fallen apart yet (because of my many bartack stitches), but it still dangles and dangles to the touch - like sleeping with an old bag instead of a blanket. That's the only time I really want the cotton to shrink in the dryer because then it wouldn't be as flexible and sad! Also, and this can only be my imagination, I feel like this duvet doesn't breathe as well as my other one, despite the thin filling. In any case, there is no doubt that the cotton fabric is of poor quality. On the other hand, the colors haven't faded and still look quite strong. Too bad the thin filling and baggy spoil the overall impression. My final verdict on this set right now is to just avoid it. I know it looks very pretty and bright but it's not worth the poor quality and the hassle of repairing the stitches. Personally, I will avoid the Pointehaven brand in the future.
