I have an aluminum skinned teardrop trailer that I built 11 years ago. I have a tongue box to hold my battery and tools. I had to rebuild the tongue box by replacing the internal wood structure and reusing the original aluminum paneling. More road and tractor dirt accumulated on the trailer tongue and the recycled aluminum siding looked unsightly. After completion of the outer skin, additional road dirt and oxidation, which I could not clean with solvents or with soap and water. I used a razor blade to scrape off the remaining silicone and buffed the leather with red pads on a random orbit sander. The pads easily removed road dirt and oxidation. I had to work a little with the silicone leftovers. It was an experiment for me and I am very happy with the results. The pads have withstood aggressive use. Buffing with the red pad removed the small scuffs I left from the sharp edge of the razor blade and the polish that was originally on the aluminum when it was new. Instead of a finishing touch, the pads were left with a flat, clean, flat surface (flat as if with no reflective sheen). Once I reinstall the box I apply a coat of car wax paste to it which will wear away and allow for the return of the patina which I expect will eventually match the patina of the main body of the trailer.
