Gap problem is good for heat shields

I had a slightly different use for this, I used it to protect a CV boot from high flow Cat welding on my Subaru. For all intents and purposes, it worked great! However, upon unboxing I found that all of the racks were riveted in the wrong direction, as if I had to use them to protect one side of a longer, thinner pipe, like a motorcycle exhaust. To get it to work I had to (force) rotate all the rivets 90° to wrap the cat properly. Strange issue and I'd probably trade it in if I didn't have time to install the downspout.
