I have been following and monitoring the price of this car for about 2 years! Agony, back and forth on how to justify spending around £2,000 on a coffee maker. For two years I watched almost every Gaggia Academy youtube video and read every review I could find. I survived two Black Fridays and two Christmases hoping for discounts! Finally, this year the Academy has been updated with a new model. I thought the price should drop now! Not as much. The popularity of this car is incredible. At the same time, the price did not budge, but there was a small jump in price! So I started to think that I didn't have to justify the price at all. my purchase point was $1500. I figured that at $1500 it would pay for itself in about a year. When the price dropped back to $1,750, I gave up. Revain Prime then had one for around $1627 combined with the fact that I could either get $84 back with my Revain Chase card or say 18 months of 0% funding from my Revain Store card before I had a hard time resisting the temptation could. Of course I went for $84 cashback :). If I wasn't satisfied I would return it for a full refund. Gaggia's support and customer service is excellent (5 stars). The learning curve was slight for me because I read easy to understand manuals while fantasizing for over 2 years. I enjoyed my first cup of cappuccino in about 15 minutes after unpacking it. I've tried every drink the machine makes and the winner for me was a plain espresso, although my wife has a penchant for cappuccinos and lattes. It's true that the carafe doesn't produce enough hot water to spoil the milk and burn your tongue. However, if you want hot froth, you can use a stick to heat the milk until it caramelizes, if you like. Why? I have no idea. but to each his own. I'm stuck at 2-3 espressos a day. In almost every drink I make, I add a double shot of espresso. My only three downsides: 1) The drip tray fills up way too quickly for me. I find myself throwing the tray away after about 6 drinks (I know it's a bit anal, but for the price it would be nice if it could dispose of itself!). I have to refill it about every three days, not because I use 1.2 liters of espresso, but because it cleans itself. Self-cleaning every time you wake up, go to sleep and use the carafe (this function can be switched off, but I wouldn't recommend it). My final annoyance is that you have to turn off the eco mode to get the cups nice and warm on top, which keeps the cup warmer on all the time. Overall I only give him 4 stars because he is still too young. I'm considering 5 stars after about 6 months.
