For a company that focuses on making quality outdoor footwear, I had high hopes for this shoe. Unfortunately, this is nothing more than a flat sole with a cheap textile upper. Orthotics solve the lack of arch support, but upper construction is daunting. The laces focus all of their downward and lateral pressure on a coin-sized spot on the arch of my foot, just above the arch. This concentration of pressure creates a painful hot spot after walking for more than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, untying the laces weakens the stability of the shoe and my feet almost slip off. Lesson: Merrel isn't ready for modern urban footwear. They should stick with their hiking and exercising product lines. When it comes to urban shoes, I'll stick with Cole Khan.
