The directions are not the only way to use this product ;-)
Been using this tool since 2004. They will say to heat and curl BEFORE the mascara but I get better results by putting one coat of waterproof on first, THEN heating and apply more coats after. I find I have to replace mine after 1.5 years. Always have batteries on hand as battery power goes quickly.
