When this arrived I wasn't aware that a hex key was included as it helps to hold this stand in place. If yours isn't that tall, there's a latch to keep this stand in place. However, if you want to lock everything, just use a wrench and tighten the screw. I have it with a latch and when it's in place it doesn't move at all. I also raised it almost all the way up and used a wrench to tighten this stand under the weight of my laptop, it doesn't move a bit. The padding on this stand not only protects the laptop but also prevents it from slipping. There is even an anti-slip pad on the bottom which not only protects my desk but also helps keep this stand in place. The stand helps keep my laptop from overheating but helps keep it in a comfortable position for me.
