Great for older large breeds with weak hindquarters

We have a 15 year old Lab Doberman mix who had a nasty phone call about a month ago. After we picked her up from the hairdresser she could barely walk so after a visit to the vet and taking painkillers he told us she wouldn't be able to "walk" in 48 hours. we would have to "talk". :o( He suggested buying dog shoes so she could move a little better on our hardwood floor at home - he suggested buying them from REI or a sporting goods store. They were insanely expensive and maybe seemed too strong for what they were were for. we needed - basic boots for traction - no hiking rocky terrain in extreme weather etc. Those days are gone! haha! worth trying. We tried to put on her "wellies" about 10 years ago, as she never liked it Her feet got wet when it rained outside - which was a disaster - she couldn't walk and they didn't hold on As she is a dobe lab mix her legs are quite skinny like a doberman and boots, that we've tried in the past just don't "fit" I was worried these Ultra Paws might do the same but under the circumstances it was worth a try 2 day main supply.. However we only have them on the hints Tried her legs on (that's where she has a weakness) and not only do they last, but they fit her legs well enough that she can walk with a little "heel" to make her dizzy - but without much anxiety - and she wore them for hours, here and there outside as well. We don't use them on a daily basis right now, but we love knowing we have them on hand when she's having a "bad day" and needs some extra support. I highly recommend them - I think they make a huge difference in the quality of life for older dogs. who have weakness in their hind legs and have difficulty standing upright on slippery surfaces. And the last - we tried the medium on it. Having read all the reviews - can't remember if the pack/website size recommended this or more - but she's got decent legs and a medium sized dobe lab - at her base weight of around 59lbs - now only still about 52 pounds

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues
