I bought these with Christmas in mind so I boxed them up without opening them for closer inspection when they arrived. The package contains 4 neatly folded napkins that could be gift wrapped, so I wanted to think about the purchase to decide whether to keep them for myself or use them as gifts. In the end I decided to keep them to myself as giving at parties seems totally impossible this year. The design exceeded my expectations! Small pines are the darkest evergreen color possible, so it's hard to tell if they're actually forest green or black even if you look closely at eye level. This is a good color choice as it is not intended for one off holiday use but can be used year round for anyone looking for something for a cabin/lodge, BBQ, 4th of July or just rustic woodland enjoy . their daily use. That way, instead of just using them at Christmas as I first thought, they can be used all year round. I washed it in cold water and hung it to dry and it was machine washed perfectly. There was about 1/2 inch of shrinkage but they are big enough that this wasn't a problem at all and in fact I was a bit relieved to see that they wouldn't clutter up the table. All sizes are the same from one napkin to another. They have the hallmarks of Indian cotton with a beautiful weave. The design is on both sides and there is a bit of weight and a bit of stiffness in them. There is some variation in where the check pattern was cut, as some doilies have red squares on the outside edges and others have rectangular sections of white wood on the outside edges. At first I was bothered by the sewn-on label on the napkins and tried to just cut it off. But I dared one with a seam ripper, and while it doesn't look like it, the label was actually just sewn onto a bunch of other hem stitches. It was a relief not having to re-stitch the area when removing the tags. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it.
