Everything corresponds to the description, the metal is not thin at all. It looks great on the wall and you can see it clearly in the photos. As other reviews have pointed out, it needs to be off center if you want it to be flush as the wires come out the side rather than the center of the unit. It wasn't a problem for me, she walked up the stairs along the wall. The downside, which I didn't expect, is that when you stand underneath it (e.g. at the top of the stairs) you're looking straight at the bulb. This is a standard E-26 fitting, a lightbulb. The smart GE bulb we use works great. I deduct 1 star for the wiring.
