Very good NAS, best storage

I put 2 Seagate Ironwolf 6TB drives in this thing and it works great. So I use it as Raid1 so I get about 6TB of it. But. I know my belongings are well protected. Unless you have at least 2 copies of something important, you have no protection at all. One bad hard drive and that's it. So I'm on the safe side with automatic mirrors. I use this NAS as a place to store all my music, photos and saved classic movies and then access them with my Kodi HTPC. Everything works very well. It took a little

I will not buy again

Tons of downloaded viruses and crappy apps. Very slow and difficult to use. Simple functions like deleting a file or directory require many clicks and may or may not work. The internal software is terrible - example: FTP storage enabled and FTP external devices with the correct user and password. However, every time the file was written via FTP, a warning was written in the log file, there are thousands of them, why? The fan on the device broke last week 6 weeks ago. old. Likewise, I'm going to

Great budget NAS for media backup and sharing

The TS-230 is a great budget solution as the RTS1296 processor with 2GB RAM is included in the Synology DS218 which costs $71 more. It looks good with a modern light blue (Hatsune Miku) design and badge shape LEDs. (Other NAS have rectangular LEDs with symbols printed on them.) The trays can hold hard drives in place with screws and snap rails. It's great for backup and media sharing (as a network drive) for the PC. Hybrid Backup Sync and Qsync Central are well-made programs that always work…

Exceeds expectations, especially for an entry-level NAS

First, QNAP models' hardware is often much cheaper than Synology, but Synology has the edge in software. For budget NAS, 2GB of RAM is pretty good, though not expandable. In terms of user interface, it's not as easy to set up as a Synology NAS. However, once configured, it offers some very useful features such as: B. the ability to mount cloud services (Dropbox, GDrive) as file shares, so this can be very helpful for Linux boxes that are hard to find a reliable client for. It also offers a…

So far, so good! Verification will continue in the future.

I am setting up this NAS with a YouTube video showing how to set up this QNAP ts-230 for the first time. The video was uploaded by NASCompares and was very helpful as this is my first NAS. I only have 1 4TB Seagate Ironwolf Nas Drive installed at the moment but will be installing another one soon to set up Raid 1. I have to admit I haven't researched if this is possible after installing just 1 drive, but we'll see. Reason for purchase. I bought this Nas to keep my files in one place as I have…

great for my use

I have set it up so that Android, Apple, Linux and Windows 10 can see the files on this NAS. Windows 10 shows my folders that are on the NAS and I can do what I can. as if the files were on my computer. So I can move, delete, copy and back between PC and NAS. Also, I can open the Movies folder on the NAS and watch my movies with VLC. I don't need a Stader. It's nice for me that all my PCs can see the NAS folders. Before I got a NAS, I had to take an external hard drive and plug it into the PC I

Garbage. 2 dead units in a row.

I had high hopes for this kit. I set it up as soon as it arrived, powered it on, installed the control app and ran the suggested firmware update. It went up to 41% and then froze. When I checked the NAS, it was powered off and never powered back on. I asked for a replacement and sent the first one back. When the replacement came, it was DOA. The only thing it did was spin the fan for about a second when turned on and then turn into a brick. In both cases I tried to contact QNAP support. First…

Incredible performance and USB host mode has limited speed.

I bought this because QNAP is the only low-cost NAS company to advertise USB host connectivity so it can be used as a direct-attached storage device. in practice I couldn't get it to work. In general, the interface hung due to low power consumption. It wasn't a very good experience for me. I returned it and bought a Synology DS220j thinking it would be better. While the user interface was excellent, the DS220j's performance is also too slow to be of any value. For example, when doing a USB copy

Good inexpensive NAS for those who are computer savvy

I'm pretty computer savvy (I've changed hard drives, installed PCI cards, messed around with Windows settings, etc. Works on my home network in less than 1 hour operating software The software for the NAS (available via a web browser) is well designed but may require further guidance for those who are not experts in networking or "storage pool" setups etc. I wouldn't rate this for the average recommend computer user who doesn't know the difference between SATA and SSD I would give it 5 stars…
