Review on QNAP TS 230 Cortex A53 Quad Core Processor by John Rodriguez

So far, so good! Verification will continue in the future.

I am setting up this NAS with a YouTube video showing how to set up this QNAP ts-230 for the first time. The video was uploaded by NASCompares and was very helpful as this is my first NAS. I only have 1 4TB Seagate Ironwolf Nas Drive installed at the moment but will be installing another one soon to set up Raid 1. I have to admit I haven't researched if this is possible after installing just 1 drive, but we'll see. Reason for purchase. I bought this Nas to keep my files in one place as I have more than one computer and cellphone that I want to back up my photos from. Also, all I want or need is a dual-drive Nas. Why this model? We chose two models for me. Either Synology ds220j or this Qnap ts-230. Both have the same processor, but this model has 2GB of DDR4 RAM, while the DS220j only has 512MB of DDR4 RAM. I can't believe the DS220j only has 512MB of RAM. Also, you can't upgrade RAM in any of the devices, so this was a game changer for me. I've never had a computer or anything where having more RAM and getting the job done better and faster wasn't a good idea. The price was of course also a decisive factor. At the time of purchase, they were both within $10 of each other, so buying the one again with a lot more RAM only made the ts-230 easier to choose from. I just installed everything and will start using it today 8/4/2020. I'll keep you posted on how it's going in two weeks. Should be fun and help make backups easier since all files are in one place. I will come back in two weeks to add more. Watch after. Update 08/15/2020 Well, as soon as I get this to work, of course my internet service no longer works either. Hasn't worked for 5 days. My ISP later fixed the issue in the box and even updated our service here, so give me a few more days and I'll be back for a decent update.
